Things have been a little here and a little there and a little everywhere. Dad is now sitting in his Archie Bunker recliner in his own digs and now we get to face road construction from a different angle as we make the commute – the novelty has already worn off but these visits are far more enjoyable as we supervise dad from sneaking off to do things he isn’t yet supposed to do.
There was a lot of work on the gansey for High Maintenance Cotton Twin – I’ve finished the front, back, and sleeves:

I’m loving the yarn – Organic Cotton from Blue Sky Alpaca and the pattern is a delight. The only thing I would have changed is the color – I thought Navy would be a perfect color to hide spots and stains from a soon to be stinky boy child, but it also absorbs every piece of fur in this house like a sponge and it doesn’t show the gorgeous pattern as well as I like. I guess I will just have to make two. Look – even the initials came out pretty cool:

Interesting how in this shot, the camera made the color a grayish color – wouldn’t it be great if that is all you needed to change the color of something – you could photoshop your whole wardrobe and be the belle of the ball.
So, back here at the reddog ranch, I’ve been working on a little side business that takes my status of a beauty product junkie to new heights. I’m working on my website but nothing makes you feel more like idget than trying to design your own web-page and shopping cart system – so in a few months, when my children will probably be my web site designers or I snag some kid down the street, I’ve listed some of my stuff on Etsy (link is on the sidebar). I think I smell a contest too – if you leave me a comment on this post telling me your favorite scent, I’ll pick some random winners to win some of my new concoctions. I’ll leave it open until July 4th Midnight ESD. I’ll be adding more products to my own site – baby line, facials, masks, sea salts, sugar scrubs, etc. I’ll also be hitting some of our local farmer markets. I’ll keep you posted.
While I’ve been working on the biz, hubster has been having to occupy the guys a little during their especially fussy time. After watching it in shock, I gotta hand it to him – they are both happy. Boys are a different cast of character, aren’t they?

Congrats on the new venture! Personal care products are always sort of a challenge for me – I have rosacea and am sensitive to a lot of scents (even natural ones). Lemon tends to be the scent I can best tolerate…
June 25, 2007 at 7:29 pm
I just love those happy babies!!
And my favorite sent is the incense, Nag Champa. Love it love it!!
June 25, 2007 at 7:31 pm
What a cool daddy!! The boys couldn’t be happier!! Yes, children truly do need the male approach to things….like playing!! This is fantastic video! Thanks for sharing your precious family!
June 25, 2007 at 7:39 pm

June 25, 2007 at 7:42 pm

They’ve got one cracker of a dad!
As for scent’s I love anything fruity.
June 25, 2007 at 7:43 pm
My favorite scent? Baby head. Followed closely by “kitten.” But I think those would both be hard to bottle!!
What a pair of goofballs you have there! Reminds me of the wheelbarrow rides my old man used to give us (when we were a bit older though!)
June 25, 2007 at 8:05 pm
Oh, geez, Chris stole my comment. Rosacea + allergies. But I do like very mild fragrances, usually more herbal or citrus than sweet or fruity.
June 25, 2007 at 8:10 pm
i love the smell of roses from my garden.
June 25, 2007 at 8:14 pm
Oh, lavender! Has been for more years than I cre to admit.
June 25, 2007 at 8:15 pm
Did you notice my blasted AAAAAAAAA key only works when it wants to?

June 25, 2007 at 8:26 pm
Your boys are gorgeous!!!! They have gotten so big.
My favorite scent would have to be lavender.
June 25, 2007 at 8:29 pm

The boys are getting so big!!

Lavender apple
June 25, 2007 at 9:08 pm
Jasmine. Congrats on the new business.
June 25, 2007 at 9:13 pm
Wow, you really are my hero! When do you find the time ? I know sleeping is overrated(well, not really, I do enjoy a good lie down) but you knit, create beauty products all while 2 little ones demand your every breath.
My favorite scent is vanilla almond-because it smells like Amaretto which is a favorite taste of mine ever since I had teenagers-when more than a little taste got me through ages 13-18.
I have 2 words for you: Eye Cream. I need it-soon-well a while ago really. I am constantly looking for the “perfect” eye cream-which means it iradicates all wrinkles and makes me look 35 again.
June 25, 2007 at 9:18 pm
Magic Carpet Ride, eh? My girls used to love that, too!
As for favorite scent, anything citrus. And lemongrass. (Well, that’s still kinda citrus, isn’t it?)
Best of luck on your new venture!
-Lisa

Had to watch it twice. Too funny!
June 25, 2007 at 10:03 pm
ROTFL!!! That’s awesome entertainment!
Lavendar + vanilla together and I’m buying! Or citrusy.
June 25, 2007 at 10:16 pm
I will be very specific…Mister Lincoln roses from my garden, since they first one I’ve had live just bloomed.
I had to watch that video twice…the second time so JP and the Russells could watch too! I couldn’t get over how much fun they were having!!!!!
June 25, 2007 at 10:16 pm
Oh, what a sweet, sweet video. I loved the boys total attention during the ride and then the smiles right after. Woo hoo!
Scent? Fresh Cut Grass! Yeah.
June 25, 2007 at 10:26 pm
love to watch those laughing babies.

And oh my, those are two adorable boys.
June 25, 2007 at 11:20 pm
delurking to say my favorite scent is lilacs.
June 25, 2007 at 11:30 pm
Oh my gosh. I think that’s my favorite video of the boys. They’re just adorable and your hubby is so funny (OUCH!).
I love most scents, but my favorites are lilac, lemon, strawberry, apple, and cherry.
Or, maybe I just need to eat dinner.
June 25, 2007 at 11:43 pm
you never cease to amaze me
i tend to like simple scents (in other words not ‘creative’ combinations)–fruits or florals. lemon verbena is heavenly, as are lilacs and lavendar…but probably my all time favorite is true ‘old rose’…boy do i miss “essential oils”! (where i could buy a great rose oil)
i’ll be watching for where you might be selling locally
June 26, 2007 at 7:57 am
Love the navy sweater .
Visiting from Chaos’ place.
I have trouble with many scents and tend to prefer vanilla.
June 26, 2007 at 8:09 am
I always wear vanilla. I love it. It’s a clean, light scent.
June 26, 2007 at 8:36 am
No wonder boys like cars so much, right from the beginning it’s all about the ride… When my boys where a little older than yours, my husbands favorite thing to do (I imagine theirs, too) was laundry basket rides. Just tie a belt to the laundry basket, put a pillow in (optional cushioning), and the boy hangs on for dear life as Dad whips him through the house. Inevitably the boys ends up belly laughing!
I can’t smell much, just alitle bit, for a second. Bad allergies. I will wear Patchouli for my husband. I like vanilla or anything that smells like cookies or cake. Good luck to you!
June 26, 2007 at 8:56 am
How cute are they? Loved the Magic Carpet ride. You could tell they just loved it……got so quiet while in progress and then HUGE smiles from both at the end. Priceless.
June 26, 2007 at 9:03 am
Good luck on the new venture. My favorite scent is lavender. The second is newly opened roses.
June 26, 2007 at 9:08 am
Favorite scent?
citrus (lime or mandarin or grapefruit)with a hint of coconut
June 26, 2007 at 9:39 am
Lavender Rose! My very very favorite! (and not often found…)

(((hugs)))
June 26, 2007 at 9:40 am
Congrats on the new venture! I personally love light, floral scents, or citrus-y smells. Always light scents though, that’s the key.
June 26, 2007 at 10:04 am
Congratulations! I love your things – especially lemon!
June 26, 2007 at 10:05 am
Congrats on the new biz!
My favorite scent was Citrus Punch from Bath and Bodyworks ages ago. It was a purely citrus blend with the lime as the top note, but backed up well with orange, tangerine, grapefruit, and lemon. It seems there are tons of ginger lime or cucumber lime and mint etc. out there, but nothing with just citrus where the lime is key.
June 26, 2007 at 10:11 am
Lavender is my favorite.
June 26, 2007 at 10:12 am
Exciting! I love hand-made fragrant items!
I am a sucker for classic rose scents.
(Also lily of the valley, but that can get heavy if not applied/used with a light hand.)
Best wishes with the new project!
June 26, 2007 at 10:30 am
The boys get cuter and cuter each time you share them with us.
My favorite scent is Vicks but I guess that’s a personal addiction I have. But I also love lemongrass and lavendar.
June 26, 2007 at 10:51 am
I’m so happy to read that your dad is doing well. Miracles happen.
Ah, scents. My favorites are Orange/Ginger where you can smell both scents and Rosemary/Peppermint. I find both of these scent combos very energizing.
Boys will be boys.
June 26, 2007 at 11:06 am
That video made my day! That’s so cool! We used to do that with our boys too, they also loved it.
My favorite scents are usually citrusy. Grapefruit especially! I also like fresh scents and dislike anything overpowering.
Good luck with your new endeavor!
June 26, 2007 at 11:17 am
my favourite scents for bath/beauty things is always lavender.
(i also like clean scents that have descriptions like sea, breeze, ocean etc)
June 26, 2007 at 11:20 am
Jasmine for me–it reminds me of my backyard in bloom (and not the dying remnants that I curse and sweep daily now as they make a colossal mess)!
I think it’s great that you’re starting another venture that suits your new life at home. I completely understand why you’d do it, as I’m not planning on going back to the corporate America hellhole anytime soon. Good luck!
June 26, 2007 at 11:26 am
I can’t believe how big those boys are getting! I shared the video with my husband, so he’ll know what to do in 6 months
My favorite scents are lemongrass and lavender. Both are light and refreshing (at least to my nose).
June 26, 2007 at 11:39 am
Best of luck with your new project! I have always been partial to anything spicy. . . .
June 26, 2007 at 11:49 am
such a great video.
as much as i don’t really care for the store they do carry my favorite scent. bath and body works – coconut lime verbena. i think i just like the citrus with a hint of coconut. and i also love all things clean – oceans, breezes, seas, etc… i rarely ever tire of them.
good luck with the biz. i make my own products, too. i just wish i did more of it.
June 26, 2007 at 11:50 am
Love almond, mmm grapefruit and lavender but I think almond is the fave. Good luck with the new venture…you deserve all the support!!!
June 26, 2007 at 11:53 am
oh, and the gansey looks FAB. i love the color…navy is one of my faves right now.
June 26, 2007 at 12:22 pm
When I was younger (waaaay younger) my favorite perfume was Green Apple made by Coty I think. Would love to find something like that again!
Boys are adorable!!
June 26, 2007 at 12:34 pm
Congrats on the business venture!
I gravitate toward earthy scents, like patchouli, but love almost anything in combination with vanilla: lavender-vanilla, patchouli-vanilla, citrus-vanilla, etc.
June 26, 2007 at 12:35 pm
Visiting from Stumbling Over Chaos!
My favorite scent(s) are floral/citrus…I love jasmine, but also the citrus combos like Clinique Happy and Happy Heart, which are orange and grapefruit, I think.
June 26, 2007 at 12:49 pm
Great video!
F
avorite scent: a light cinnamon vanilla – where both are smellable.
Also peppermint for keeping the feet smelling pretty.
And lavender – mmmm l’Occitane – that makes dozing time pleasant.
Good luck on your new venture.
June 26, 2007 at 1:30 pm
Such a great video, so cute… favorite scents are vanilla, lavender and sandalwood… I love Vanilla Sugar from Bath & Body… and my perfume (the only one I can wear without sneezing or itching) is Burberry… Yum!
June 26, 2007 at 1:48 pm
that video is hysterical! i’m hearing you on the forrest of barrels girl, yesterday i only drove as far west on 96 as portland and i wanted to scream at the delays. unfortunately it’s as bad or worse east of e.l. on 69, the other way i had to go. gotta love michigan…the state with only 2 seasons, winter and construction. good luck with the site and the biz, i’ll be pulling for you.
June 26, 2007 at 1:58 pm
Love the gansey – with the initials and everything!
June 26, 2007 at 2:24 pm
Scents? I’m sensitive to too-strong scents, so I like subtle ones. Preferably citrus. Nothing too strong or flowery (achoo!) Good luck!!
June 26, 2007 at 2:34 pm
What a cute video and so nice to hear the laughter!
I have a poor sense of smell, but like clean scents. So many smell dusty or heavy to me.
June 26, 2007 at 2:42 pm
Lavender and lilac! Congrats on the new shop. I was sent here via Stumbling Over Chaos.
June 26, 2007 at 3:31 pm
Aaah! So cute. Congrats on getting the new web site going.
June 26, 2007 at 3:59 pm
I love vanilla and also rosewater scents…
June 26, 2007 at 4:25 pm
The video and sweater are great!
My favorite scent is Patchouli and Vanilla mixed together.
Is Azul a known brand (I lead a sheltered life, evidently)? I am always in the market for the next best moisturizer.
June 26, 2007 at 4:54 pm
OMG – the video is cracking me up!
My favorite scents for lotions & balms are pumpkin … pomegranate … lychee (Method has a new fragance oil that is Lychee that smells fabulous in the bathroom!). Fresh summer rain or fresh cut grass are yummy too.
June 26, 2007 at 6:04 pm
Congratulations on your new store! I love sweet almond smell. I used to wait for the Fargo, ND street fair every year to get some wonderful handmade almond olive oil soap! I’ve recently become very fond of Yuzu Japanese Grapefruit as well. It is kind of melony and cucumbery and citrusy all at the same time.
June 26, 2007 at 6:06 pm
Babies are too cute!
I love cucumber melon but when it comes to shea butter, the natural smell of it is heaven to me.
June 26, 2007 at 6:18 pm
Bebes!
I like a nice and simple oatmeal, milk & honey scent. Otherwise, a rosemary mint is good too. Mmmmm. Good luck with the new venture!
June 26, 2007 at 7:30 pm
somnagun, 65 comments!!!!
i will be late tomorrow, work meeting at 1:30pm. hope to be there by 3pm.
June 26, 2007 at 8:38 pm
OMG, those 3 “boys” are having WAY too much fun! Just adorable.
Glad your dad’s feeling well enough to try to be sneaky. Sneakiness is always a good sign.
That sweater is gorgeous, and it’s not even done yet. Lucky boys!
June 26, 2007 at 8:39 pm
oh! I totally forgot. My favorite natural scent is Jasmine.
June 26, 2007 at 10:32 pm
Your kids are so adorable! Every time I see a baby being all cute (as they always do), I turn to my boyfriend and go “I want one!” ….And watch him get all tongue-tied.
Oh yeah, HI! I’ve been reading your blog for maybe a month now (amongst the tons of knitting blogs I keep up with) and your posts are very entertaining.
And I like bergamot. Or coconut.
June 26, 2007 at 10:35 pm
Perhaps you will be that next garden botanika
I love amber and cinnamon. It’s amazing really the different kinds of amber that are available. I didn’t realize it until I ran out and went to pick up a new bottle and wow! Some are deep and woodsy, other light and powdery and some are faintly lemon (but that may be the resin only). How talented you must be to work with scents ***CV
June 26, 2007 at 11:18 pm
I love the blue sweater and the initials are are nice idea. What color are you making for your other little guy? I like the scent lime and vanilla.
June 27, 2007 at 7:10 am
Oh my gosh, so cute! I made my husband come and watch the video, and we were laughing so hard I spilled coffee on my leg. It was over, and he looked at me and said, “You want another baby?” Oh my! You know the video had the cuteness power to overcome good judgement. (I told him no) Congratulations on your etsy shop! I like lemon, thanks =) And I love your gansey sweater for the little soon to be stinky boy. I’m very impressed that you are so busy as a new mom. You’re getting lots done! ‘Scuse me, now. I gotta go check out your Etsy….
June 27, 2007 at 2:28 pm
Congrats on your new business!
Some scents, especially florals, tend to give me migraines, so I avoid heavily-scented products. I do like citrus scents, especially lemon, and herbal scents like mint and rosemary.
June 27, 2007 at 3:46 pm
What a beautiful sweater! Please send your hubby up my way … I’d like magic carpet ride too. Also, I’m glad to see that its not just my hubby who does silly stuff like that. LOL
Congratulations on the new business. How very exciting for you!
My favourite scent is vanilla … I also like sweet grass though.
June 27, 2007 at 4:00 pm
Oh my, what fun. If I stop by will I get a ride, too. I vote for super eye cream (and I have one I really like), and a super wonderful hand cream for someone who has extra, extra, super, super dry hands. Unscented is always a good option for those of us with allergies (sorry — clean is good, too — like sheets on the line fresh!). Maybe see you after 7-4!
June 27, 2007 at 7:24 pm
75 comments??? Girl -you are really getting known in the world!!! How’s that superduper eye wrinkle cream coming???
June 27, 2007 at 10:38 pm
Oh man, those boys are too cute! That is such a sweet funny video!
I love orangey-citrusy scents.
Love those boys! What dolls!
June 27, 2007 at 10:39 pm
Oh man, those boys are too cute! That is such a sweet funny video!
I love orangey-citrusy scents.
Love those boys! What dolls!
And congrats on the shop. Gotta go check it out.
June 28, 2007 at 1:54 am
I do love Blue Sky and every yarn that they make. I see where you were coming from with hiding the dirt of a kid, but I can also see where you’re coming from with the whole dark color/soaking up every piece of hair in the house. I can’t even wear black until I’m out of the house without fear of being covered in hair by the time I make it out the door.
June 28, 2007 at 3:07 am
I’m sure we’ll discuss this over the weekend, but I totally want some of that stuff you had in the can that you let us try out at TB. It’s lovely and I NEED it.
The magic carpet ride was fanfreakingtabulous. hehe…
June 28, 2007 at 3:18 am
Oh and MK is totally not animal tested.
They stopped totally in 1999.
From PETA:
Mary Kay Ends Animal Tests
After a 10-year moratorium on animal tests, cosmetics giant Mary Kay has at last agreed to never test its products on animals again! “Having assessed the current degree of scientific knowledge, the company does not foresee any situation in which animal testing might be necessary in the future,” said a spokesperson. Mary Kay ranks as the largest cosmetics company to sign the Corporate Standard of Compassion for Animals, a stringent, internationally accepted standard put forth by the Coalition for Consumer Information on Cosmetics, of which PETA is a member.
So you’re free to have as much fun with samples this weekend as you like. hehe
June 28, 2007 at 3:28 pm
Great video; the boys seemed to really enjoy their magic carpet ride!
My favorite scents are grapefruit, orange, ginger and basil.
June 28, 2007 at 3:47 pm
Love the video! Looks like a blast.
My favorite scent right now is geranium. Mrs. Myers Clean Day all natural cleaning products in geranium scent is so wonderful, it almost makes me want to clean. Can’t get enough of it. I think it’s actually a blend of geranium, rose, and clove – and it makes me happy.
June 29, 2007 at 9:28 am
i also wish there were a DELETE key in real life…along w/ photoshopping my wardrobe into different colors!
ha…..
lemongrass is my fave of all scents!
June 30, 2007 at 12:39 am
I heart patchoulli…dirty dirty hippy that I am!!
The gansey sweater is awesome, know what you mean about the dog hair, everything in this house tends to get made from “heathered” whatever.
Video is too cute especially the “OW” part.
June 30, 2007 at 11:14 pm
The video was too cute. Boys+movement+speed=happy.
Right now one of my favorite scents is the perfume that smells like cotton candy. They actually have a chocolate one too. If you aren’t suppose to eat it at least you can smell it.
July 6, 2007 at 1:55 pm
found your hand balm on Etsy – looks great! Freesia is one of my favorites – not too “flowery” but nice and clean smelling
